HP Printer Drivers for Windows Vista

I guess HP finally got around to releasing printer drivers for Windows Vista in April. I got around to taking a look to see if my old Photosmart 7760 was finally supported and, yet, found it has both a new driver (April 2007) and an uninstaller for, I guess drivers installed in 2000/XP previous to an upgrade (May 2007). However, take a look at this note from HP regarding this driver...

This download includes a Print Driver only. This driver makes it possible to use the basic functions for the printer. HP will not be providing a Full Featured Vista Software and Driver for this product; therefore, some functionality may be lost when you use this product with Windows Vista.

I can see why a lot of people are choosing to stay with Windows XP where they have full driver support.

  1. For those of you out there with a LaserJet 2100, don’t despair. The XP drivers from HP will work in Vista, at least in the 32bit version in my case. Has anyone else tried using the XP drivers for their respective printers and had this type of success?

  2. I had such great results getting my HP Photosmart 1115 printer to work w/ vista that I thought I’d look here for help, once again.

This time I’m looking for help getting my Epson 1250 Photo Scanner to work with Vista. I thought it would work because Vista actually recognised it, loaded the drivers and said it was ready for use….now that I need to use it I find that there is a compatability issue with the drivers for the Epson Smart Panel, which in turn leaves the scanner oos.

Can anyone help get me up and running??

I have the original disk, but it (Vista) will not load the Smart Panel, it displays a error message locating files…..Is there a patch or alternate driver that can be used, or a way to bypass the smart panel & still use the scanner. Every time I attempt to scan, I get a message that says….
Please install the suppotred TWAIN driver.

    Thanks,

I found such a patch created for the Mac, but none for Vista.

  3. Great blog here. In my experiences – HP does in fact have the worst driver support for Windows operating systems, whether it be Server 2003, Server 2008, Vista or 7.

In my many years of IT roles – HP has not been the hardware I choose – unless i dedicate an ethernet port to a big laserjet.

Having run into MORE issues this evening on yet ANOTHER HP PRINTER on Vista – Im left to believe that its not Vista. Xerox, Ricoh, Lexmark and by far Canon – are superior in their driver support.

Of course – I won’t speak for each and every end user – but my pointless rant is poised at hp. Apparently HP makes more than Steak Sauce.

  4. Glad I found this blog. I bought a new 4gb HP computer from Costco last November and have been trying to connect my older, but very good HP K-60 printer to the new computer.

On the HP driver website, I get the same standard verbage as the original poster above noted. I intitially thought is was Microsoft’s Vista deficiency causing the problem, but from what I’m now reading it is HP that is the culprit. I”ve been completely stymied for all this time and without a functioning printer since November.

I know I could just capitulate and buy a new HP computer and solve the problem, but this is really a copout. To add insult to injury, HP farms all its service calls out to India. While they speak (broken) English, I don’t have the feeling that the “service” is top flyte for a problem like this.

Frankly, this an outragious way to treat consumers on multiple levels. Its amazing to me that they can get away with this in the marketplace.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN SOLVE THIS PROBLEM? Thanks in advance.

  5. EPSON PHOTO SCANNER DRIVERS for VISTA??????

  6. After hours of frustrating attempts to load a compatible driver for my hp photosmart 1115 on my new vista 64-bit PC, I found this blog. I followed the instructions shared by Matt Bell on 12/31/08, and FINALLY SUCCESS! THANK YOU!!

  7. problem using hp 1220c printer with vista, the printer starting printing in strange & crazy way with vista driver, tried hp drivers no solution, pls. I need help does anyone know how I can find a solution?
    Thanks in advance

  8. Yep, bought a brand new HP Pavilion, is it compatible with my HP photosmart 1115 …NO, of course HP could fix this, but they will not, I contacted HP customer care and got an outsourced helper who gave me several steps to “fix’ the printer problem, what a bunch of BS,,, all of it was junk and wasted several hours of my time,,,

Rest assured this is the LAST time I buy anything from HP, anything at all,

Going to purchase one of those Kodak low ink printers,,,,screw HP !

  9. Hi All, I have a HP PSC 1110 that I have used for 4 years. It is a great printer and works very well, but NOT under Vista. Yes it is one of those where HP has not bothered to create a driver for it to allow use of its features, we now have a MS driver (which I am sure HP wrote anyway).
The printer can no longer print in fast draft or grayscale which is really wasteful.
I discovered this in 2008 when I bought a vista laptop and since then have complained to HP support, emailed the CEO and written to the Head Office as these are basic features NOT advanced.
I will continue with this as it is not acceptable. I am sure there have been many complaints from other HP PSC 1110 users based on the internet.
Make no mistake HP know how many of these printers they sold for each of the the last 5 years so they know a lot of people were using them and that these people would start to use Vista which is software and does not necessarily require a hardware upgrade to use.

Their website say the printer is supported under Vista but this is not so. It is not supported and they never planned to support it. They want people to buy a new one as they do not care about the environment or their customers practical needs. 4 members of my family bought HP printers based on my advice, I now do not recommend them to anyone which is a shame as my HP PSC 1110 still works very well under XP.

HP will find that this will come back to bite them, I certainly hope so

  10. Matt, thanks for taking the time to list the VISTA work around. It worked for me! Anyone interested see Matt’s blog of December 31, 2008.

  11. Same story, different printer. HP All In One C4650. Brand new, installed on a brand new Dell Studio Laptop. Installation went smooth, scan, copy work just fine. Printer shows up, print queue shows documents processing… NOTHING PRINTS – NO ERRORS. Not a communication issue because the HP toolbox will print an alignment page, clean the cartridges, clean the rollers, but test pages and any document will not print out. HP was NO HELP at all. I spent nearly 3 hours testing, uninstalling, reinstalling, checked security, firewall, user security… No go.

Finally called HP WHAT A JOKE!! They spent almost 4 hours remotely doing the same things I had already tried – even though I told them I already did the same thing. (Follow that script!)

Anybody know of a replacement driver for this model? It’s my daughter’s who is now away at school. She can do without the scan and copy for now if she can at least print.

  12. My HP psc 1110 will not print solely in black and white. The grayscale option is missing. Son’s of bitches at HP can’t help.

  13. I too am so glad I found this blog. A big Mahalo (thank you) to Matt (Dec ’08). I have a HP Photosmart 1215, which is a very good printer, and needed to change over to my laptop, HP Pavilion. It would not take, and HP support told me that my photosmart was “outdated” and I needed to replace it. All she wanted to do was sell me a new printer. HP support is NO help.

I followed Matt’s direction except after I deleted the old XP printer drivers, I went to Control Panel -> Printers -> Add A Printer then added the HP Deskjet 970Cxi printer. I had to use the Port Dot4_003 photosmart 1215 port with the 970Cxi driver.

System now prints. In the Printer section you see the Deskjet printer, but it runs my photosmart.

    Again, Mahalo Matt.

  14. Finally! I have always stayed away from Vista (you’ll have to agree… too many problems from day 1) but now I’ve “inherited” a laptop with Vista on it. No intentions on spending money on an upgrade to Windows 7, so I’m stuck with it and with the problems it comes with. Thanks to your explanation and the comments of other users I managed to hook up HP printer and get it to work. Cheers!

  15. HP Photosmart 1115 VERY OLD printer, I followed these directions to install on Vista and it worked!!!
